Design of Botanic Garden for Fergusson College, Pune

As one of the best architects in Pune, we often feel that architecture isn’t only about creating. It’s also about restoring and realigning things back to their former glory. And thankfully, we got this opportunity while restoring the Botanical Garden Area at Fergusson College this year. So, this garden was established in 1902. But, it was a victim of floods, droughts and other climatic challenges since 1961.

So, we first began to understand what to preserve and what to restore while redesigning it sensitively. Like, we focused on zoning and creating distinct zones for the Pollinators’ Paradise, the Aquatic Plants area & the Fernery. And then, we tried to include a cohesive design language with cobblestone pavement, educative zones and active composting areas in the garden layout.

In fact, we’ve watched this garden grow and evolve since 2022. And it’s now a space that grows every day with rare & exotic species, encourages discovery, and celebrates the quiet resilience of nature itself. Pretty amazing, right?
